Every child carries a story—one that begins with their roots, their family, and their culture. Yet, in today’s fast-changing world, many children risk losing touch with the very heritage that gives them strength. Others face barriers to education, language, and community support that prevent them from reaching their full potential.
Children of Heritage was born from a simple but powerful belief: no child should have to choose between honoring their past and embracing their future.
How It Began
Our journey started when community members, parents, and educators in Palo Alto saw an urgent need. Many children from immigrant and multicultural families were struggling—balancing the weight of cultural identity with the demands of school, and often feeling unseen in both. Parents wanted their children to succeed academically, but they also wanted them to stay connected to the traditions and values that defined them.
It was from these conversations that Children of Heritage took shape. What began as small storytelling circles and tutoring sessions quickly grew into a movement—an effort to preserve cultural identity while creating equal access to education and emotional support.
Growing With the Community
Over the years, our programs expanded to include cultural workshops, after-school tutoring, mentorship, family wellness circles, and community festivals. What makes us unique is not just what we teach, but how we nurture: every program honors the child’s whole self—heritage, learning, and well-being.
From elders teaching traditional songs, to volunteers mentoring high school students, to families celebrating heritage festivals together, every activity is designed to weave culture, education, and belonging into one strong foundation.
